THE HIDEOUT AT TEYFANT ROAD

“I found a sense of community at the Hideout that I have never had before”- Carer 👫👫

The Hideout at Teyfant Road is our Adventure Playground. It provides a safe space where children and young people can play, get involved in fun activities, and enjoy the freedom of intrinsically motivated free play.

This established play space for the community of Hartcliffe, serves as a place parents can meet friends, and get support from our engagement team based there . Food, drinks, as well as lots of resources for fun activities are provided at the play park, ranging from cooking classes to slime making!

“The children and young people at the Hideout really love all the fun theme sessions we put on, ranging from fire building to marble art to slime making, they feel relaxed within that environment and feel free to be themselves and have fun”- Engagement worker

The Hideout is South Bristol’s first Adventure Playgroup which LPW has developed from a derelict, overgrown and neglected old primary school site into a centrally located, safe, supportive environment in one of Bristol’s most multi-deprived communities- an area with the highest level of need across the city, South Bristol having the highest percentage (37%) of all children on Child protection plans across the city.

LPW provides an escape through unstructured play opportunities for children to engage in freely chosen and intrinsically motivated play, helping the children and young people to:

  • Build social connections

  • Acquire fundamental skills

  • Learn how to cope with everyday challenges and situations

  • Improve confidence, self esteem, resilience- enabling them to learn about the world and themselves

The Hideout is a green space in the heart of an urban community where there are high numbers of families living in overcrowded, often high-rise homes. It is a safe outdoor space that local groups can come to plant fresh fruit and veg🌱

We have succeeded in creating play opportunities to support families to access a far-wider range of play activities beyond their postcode. Through play progressions, we have supported children and families in increasing their knowledge, understanding and confidence to reach new and enriching play spaces that they tell us have previously been inaccessible.
