Taking young people’s stories to the airwaves
7th December 2017
It can be hard for young people to have their voices heard, so our Barton Hill Boy’s Group jumped at the chance to produce a radio show in a project funded by Up Our Street.
Over a series of sessions, the boys planned out the programme, before setting about interviewing other young people and members of the public about the issues that are really important to them, such as things to do, community safety, young people’s services and parks and green spaces in the local area. They boys selected the music and helped edit the final programme.
The show was broadcast on BCfm late last month, but can be heard again online here, choosing the 20th of November broadcast. Flanked by Celia from Up Our Street and Harriet from BCfm, are LPW Boys Group Members Jay, Ans and Mustafa.
“They really championed the work that LPW does in the area, and one of the features on the show explores what might happen if there are less young people’s services when the budget is reduced next year. It was striking that when they went to speak to residents about these issues, hardly anyone knew about the cuts.” – Celia
