Playful Bristol launched at Bristol’s annual Play day

8th August 2019

LPW are proud to be part of Playful Bristol and it’s launch at yesterdays Play Day held at Castle Park.

Play is the universal language of childhood.  Children learn so much from playing; It teaches them social skills such as sharing, taking turns, self-discipline and tolerance of others. They enjoy it because there is no ‘right or wrong way’.

Playful Bristol’s vision is a city where: all children can, grow, flourish and be happy, where play is an everyday part of life regardless of where children live or their families economic status; where every child’s needs for play is met and supported and where children’s play is celebrated citywide, supported by adults and and by the built environment itself.

We believe that children like to play in lots of different ways following their own ideas for their own reasons.  These experiences help children develop an understanding of themselves and the world around them.  Through play children may choose to play in many different ways outlined in this diagram:

Children’s right to time and space to play is every bit as important as their right to education and right to nutrition and shelter or their right to healthcare.
