Learning about pregnancy and parenthood
14th November 2017
What is it for a young person to think about pregnancy and motherhood, or being a father?
For learners at LPW Independent School, hearing first hand from young mothers and fathers is part of their Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) studies. They use health education materials as well as their discussions with the parents of young children to learn what it is like to be pregnant, what it can be like to be a parent.
Four young mothers and three fathers were on hand to share some often difficult experiences of pregnancy, birth and young parenthood. All the learners engaged with a series of questions ranging from the physical experiences of birth and breastfeeding through to the way relationships can change with the arrival of children.
The learners reflected the session had been one of the most thought-provoking they had experienced and their discussions continue.
